UPDATE – Delaware Fraternal Order of Police Teams Up with Ruth Briggs King to Support Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts

Georgetown, DE – October 1, 2024 – The Delaware Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) has engaged in critical discussions with Lieutenant Governor candidate Ruth Briggs King, who has graciously extended her support to the National Fraternal Order of Police’s Disaster Area Response Team (DART) currently deployed across regions devastated by Hurricane Helene.

Due to their status as first responders and sworn officers, the FOP DART Team can rapidly access disaster areas and collaborate effectively with local first responders, providing crucial aid without disrupting ongoing rescue and relief operations. Their primary mission: to assist all individuals, including workers and families, in the affected regions to the fullest extent possible. As communities continue to reel from Hurricane Helene, which slammed into Florida’s Gulf Coast as a Category 4 storm with 140 mph winds, the need for assistance is critical. The storm caused massive storm surges, flooding, and power outages that impacted millions, with its path of destruction stretching across Georgia and the Carolinas.

“We’ve all seen the heartbreaking photos and videos of the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene,” said Ruth Briggs King. “Now it’s time for Delaware to step up and do what we can to help.”

Ruth Briggs King has partnered with small businesses in each county of Delaware this week to gather essential supplies for the relief effort. Special thanks go out to Jeff Chorman Spraying in Sussex County and Mark Pugh Automotive in Kent County for their leadership in supporting this cause with the funds and resources necessary to make this happen.

Items needed for donation include:

  • Cleaning supplies: bleach, scrub brushes, gloves, buckets, laundry supplies
  • Paper towels, trash bags (large and medium)
